Tasting wines at the wine museum el Grifo

In the tiny village of Masdache, you can find this interesting museum. It is not only interesting, but they also have made a beautiful location of it. They have a small cacti garden near the entrance with many different kinds of cacti and with their beautiful and special vineyards. Even when it is hard to imagine, the volcanic soil on Lanzarote was ideal for farming and growing grapes to make wine! Because it can be very windy on Lanzarote, they thought of an idea to protect the plants from the wind; they made holes in the ground to put the plants in and built stones around them. You can also taste some of their delicious wines here.

Prices

You don’t pay an entrance fee for visiting Museo el Grifo; however, if you want a guided tour in which they will explain everything about their fantastic volcanic wines, which includes wine tasting, it will cost you around 15 euros. Especially if you want to learn a bit more about the special technique for growing grapes, we recommend you book such a tour.

Accessibility

Museo el Grifo is located on the road between Masdache and La Florida, easily accessible by car. If you only want to visit the museum, you can take the bus, there is a bus stop at around 10 to 15 minutes walk from there. However, suppose you are also interested in visiting the other (small) wineries in the area. In that case, we recommend you do this by car or rent a bicycle.

Opening Hours

The museum is always open from 10.30 till 18.00, but if you want to book a tour, you might want to check their website first. English tours might not be available all day, every day.
