El Lago Verde

A beautiful must-see natural attraction on the island Lanzarote is El Lago Verde. It owns its name (Verde means green, Lago means lake) because of the lake’s unique color: green.

Special natural phenomena Lago Verde

El Lago Verde is what the name says: a green lake. Not the type of green from a swampy or boggy lake; no, it has a clear green color! The half-moon-shaped green lake owns its color because of the phytoplankton, different sulfurs, minerals, and the significant number of unique microorganisms that inhabit this place. Together with the surrounding black sand, this beautiful natural phenomenon is one of the most picturesque places in Lanzarote.

Facilities

There is one bar/restaurant at the parking place for El Lago Verde. However, you are near the village of El Golfo, which is famous for its fresh fish. We recommend you go there if you’re looking for a place to have lunch or drinks.

Prices

Almost impossible to imagine these days, but this activity is free! You don’t pay entrance fees, and we were there early in the morning, so we were alone. However, we were traveling in wintertime, so it will probably be a bit more crowded in the summertime. Try visiting early in the morning to avoid crowdedness.

Accessibility

El Lago Verde is located in the volcanic area of Lanzarote, near El Golfo. You can easily reach this place by car, but unfortunately, there is no bus stop nearby. We recommend renting a car, or the more expensive way: taking a taxi.
